Hazel Crest Fire Chief Acquires Smoke Detector Grant
HAZEL CREST — Hazel Crest Fire Chief Tyrone Jarrett today announced that the Village of Hazel has successfully acquired a grant for the installation of residential smoke alarms with 10 year batteries. The grant is sponsored by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM).
“Our goal is to make sure there is a smoke alarm at every level of every residential dwelling plus every bedroom in Hazel Crest, beginning with homes where a resident is disabled, over the age of 65 or under the age of 8,” said Chief Jarrett. “The alarms are provided free of charge and we also plan to assist
residents with the creation of diagrams for home escape plans so that all residents know what to do in the event of an emergency.”
Up to two some detectors will be provided to each dwelling for free under the program. The Hazel Crest Fire Department will create a master ledger of dwellings with the new smoke detectors which can be accessed by firefighters responding to a residential fire emergency.
