Health Alert: Coronavirus
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and Illinois Department of Public Health are closely monitoring the outbreak caused by a novel coronavirus originating in China. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some causing illness in humans and others that circulate among animals. Rarely, these animal coronaviruses can evolve, infect people and then spread between people as experienced with MERS and SARS. People experiencing fever, cough, difficulty breathing AND have travelled to China (or have had contact with someone else who travelled to China) two weeks before becoming ill, should consult a doctor for an evaluation.
